01 Oct James’ Story
We started 2023 on a high. After struggling to conceive due to male factor infertility, my wife was pregnant through IVF. We had seen baby’s heartbeat in an early scan.
But not long later my wife had a missed miscarriage. We cycled through the stages of grief – individually and together. Over the coming months, we wanted each embryo transfer to come sooner, but also needed time to grieve. My wife had another miscarriage.
After using up our NHS funding we started private treatment. This was complicated by more challenges: I broke my ankle and needed surgery. Weeks later, my wife fainted the night after another embryo transfer, leading to a head injury and another A&E visit.
By the end of 2023 we were physically and emotionally exhausted from the miscarriages and hospital visits. We were weaker but also stronger as a couple after our shared trauma.
Since then, my wife had another miscarriage. But our 6th transfer was finally successful. Our beautiful baby was born in spring 2025.
