Ian’s Story

Ian’s Story

I tried to process the words coming out of the doctor’s mouth, but all I could focus on was the first sentence she said, “We couldn’t find a heartbeat”. The world as my wife and I knew it came crashing down. No more building a crib, no more putting together the nursery. On a day that we were supposed to see our baby, it quickly became the worst day of my life as I held my wife in the doctor’s office.

Our church offered a Griefshare class that we both agreed we should attend. This turned out to be a 13-week class of learning how to process the pain we were feeling. These ladies, and men, quickly became some of our closest companions in our baby loss journey. We shared stories we otherwise never would have. We cried, we laughed, but most importantly, we grieved TOGETHER. We all had our own stories, but we each shared the common connection of losing someone we dearly loved. This class allowed us to feel seen and heard, and grieve in ways we otherwise never would.
