04 Oct Gemma’s Story
2016 was the year. My husband and I decided we were ready to try for a child. Having already had a four-year-old daughter, we were keen to give her a sibling. We were in good health and were happy, so it really felt like a better time than any.
We fell pregnant almost instantly, and as if by fate, we were expecting our child in August/September. I was showing very early on and it was impossible to hide, but we were so excited we happily shared our news with friends and family.
It was a routine appointment at about 18/19 weeks that our joy was taken away from us. We had attended a maternity appointment at our chosen hospital to discuss my birthing options as I had a complicated labour with my daughter.
The midwife asked me to hop on to the bed for a quick check over afterwards. She couldn’t find a heartbeat. I was taken for a scan, where our worst fears were confirmed, our baby had died. The hours that followed that were horrific & a blur even now. I delivered our baby girl the following day 16/03/2016.
